Wigmaking part 4 - wig cap

The cat is sleeping - like almost always. And now I have time to write again at last. Not because the cat.....

Okay, the wig cap. I made it from wet shape. This is a special fabric with glue. Another name is buckram. I put a piece of it in warm water. Than the fabric turns to soft. I wring out the piece and put it in place on the doll head. I fix it with rubber bands.

If the fabric are dry and firm, I can define the hairline and cut out the wig cap. It is necessary to stiffen the hairline. Otherwise it will become loose.

Sometimes I completely brush the cap with glue. But you can also brush only the outline of the cap.

I´ve tryed a lot of different glues and acrylic mediums.
The most of them are not really waterproof. If you want to wash your wig entirely, it is better to use a glue with silicon, for example a silicon-glue for 3D-Art.

The best acrylic medium for wigmaking is a clear gel. For a time I used Clear Tar Gel and Matte Medium 1:1. It works very well. You can make the hair wet for styling, but don´t put the whole wig in water for a while. The medium can soften and maybe the wig stand to lose the hair.
